As we enter 2020, there’s more to vending than meets the eye…

As we enter the dawn of a new decade, I want to take the time to debunk some negative vending myths. And emphasise just how important vending can be to your workplace.

It is estimated that the average employer will spend over 90,000 hours in the office across their lifetime. That means we need to ensure the workplace is a positive environment that will keep your workforce happy and productive.

But how can vending be the answer?

Ask someone what they think the term “vending” entails and your response will probably be something along the lines of tasteless coffee and crushed crisps that jam on the way down.

But we’re now in 2020. Vending hasn’t been anything like this for a long time. Instead, it takes on a more premium, dynamic, flexible approach. And it’s become a necessary aspect of your workplace wellbeing strategy.

Hot drinks machines, otherwise regarded as coffee machines, arguably best emphasise this. Working for a vending company myself, I’d certainly say so.

With advanced technology and stunning designs, coffee machines effortlessly capture the taste of the coffee shop. You know longer need to head off site for that Espresso first thing, nor for your mid-morning Latte.

Fresh coffee beans and fresh milk beverages help deliver a truly authentic beverage, on another level to what you’d perhaps previously expected. And if you’re more of a tea drinker than a coffee connoisseur, that’s fine, too!

The stats behind the science.

According to a report from Leesman Index, 56% of employees surveyed said break out zones are an important part of an effective workplace.

What’s more, a whopping 84% of the same respondents claimed tea, coffee and refreshment facilities are an important service feature for any business to have. This made it the number one desire out of all the responses!

I feel now is a good time to mention that just a 1% happier workforce could boost the UK economy by up to £24 billion a year. Providing your employees with what they want is a no brainer.

The fact is though, just 12% of office workers have on-site access to quality hot drinks machines. So it seems there’s a concerning disconnect between hot drinks facilities in the workplace and those desired.

There’s more to vending than just tea and coffee, however, and this only adds to the breadth of talents that the industry possesses. Snacks, fresh food and cold drinks machines have also developed parallel to growing trends in the field.

You don’t need me to remind you about the importance of healthier eating and drinking. It’s been a common piece of information for some time now.

But after establishing just how long the average UK employee spends at work, are you doing enough to encourage a healthier intake of food and drink?

With over 44% of us spending over 7 hours a day at our desks, it’s clear that we prefer to choose speed and convenience at the expense of health and nutrition.

What many of us don’t realise is that vending is the master at ‘grab-and-go’. It makes a quick bite to eat its speciality, if you’d pardon the pun. But that doesn’t mean that your choices need to be limited nor unhealthy.

Vending machines can offer a wide range of items to cover the entirety of the working day. A hearty pot of porridge can get you off to the best start, and there’s lots more throughout the day. These include high-fibre bars, low sugar drinks, pasta pots and freshly made sandwiches, wraps and salads.

You see, vending can be the healthy choice as well as the convenient one.

This provides the best of both worlds when your staff don’t have time to head off site. A vending machine can be a great way to entice a relaxing break time on site, kicking back with colleagues and improving engagement.

Choose vending in 2020!

One final stat for you: 67% of people in a recent survey said they felt more productive after a coffee break. I reckon that extends to a dinner break, too.

As an employer, isn’t that what you want? Choose vending in 2020!
