What nation consumes the most tea? Turkey!The top three countries that consume the most tea (according to the 2016 per capita tea consumption) are;

  1. 1) Turkey
  2. 2) Ireland
  3. 3) United Kingdom

Who would have known that Turkey was first? Turkey is number one with around 3.16kg of tea consumed! During the 20thcentury the demand in tea increased dramatically as opposed to other beverages like coffee.

Number 2 on the list is Ireland. This is popular due to the cold weather and grey winters; we all need something to warm us up, right? Ireland’s solution is to drink tones of tea! They consume 2.19 kg per capita annually.

Lastly, number 3 is the United Kingdom! The UK is known for its tea preference and drinks around 1.94kg yearly. Drinking tea has been popular in the UK ever since the 18thcentury. Afternoon tea is usually served with milk, sugar and occasionally lemon.
